Dresden Fortifications

An exciting trip into the city's underworld. The part of the fortifications of Dresden which is still accessible is the north-eastern section (the part facing the Elbe, and the Jungfernbastei [Virgin bastion]) of the former fortifications of the city of Dresden. This section, which was unearthed in the 1990s, includes the barrel vaults (known as casemates) and the former brick gate, two cannon courtyards, fortified corridors, stairs, arrow slits, bridge foundations, fortified trench systems, communication pipes and the remains of a foundry for cannons and bells. All this is only 150 metres from the Cosel Palace, below the Bruehl Terrace.
